Why does discover have a bad reputation

Maybe outside of the US it's more of an issue but in the US I think the acceptance thing is more of an outdated mantra vs reality. Within a month, I PIF 'd the balance. They said to give them some more time and call them back in a few months. Point is, they didn't hold a grudge, or balance chase me or close the acct after I paid it off. I was rewarded for my awesomeness. They must have heard about my racing stardom n chit. Acceptance is rather limited at the businesses I frequent.

I undeservingly deserved the CLD , I guess. Dad was terminally ill, I had to take leave from work to tend to him. He didn't have any money. I had to cover all his expenses, rent, insurances, utilities while he was in hospice. Per the advice of the Hospice social worker, I had to drain what cash he had, transfer his truck out of his name, etc Unemployment wasn't much, single, no dependents. My emergency money went quick. I ran up some balances, a few inq's and accts to pad my increase in utilization and it spooked those banks.

Chase reinstated all 3 CL 's on 3 accts, us bank gave me nothing back. They left the other 3 accts alone. Discover Deals is very flaky. You should definitely not count on getting the promised rewards. You can request to get them credited properly, but then it becomes a chore, even if they eventually give them to you. No idea how the general public considers them.

Why does that matter? If you're concerned about acceptance then consider what merchants you shop at accept. Don't rely on a broad generalization about acceptance. I rarely have issues with Discover acceptance but that won't mean much unless you shop at exactly the same places. Don't just respond to invites, offers, preapprovals, etc. They're just marketing. They don't CLD for no reason. You may not agree with the reason but it's up to the creditor.

If you want to determine the reasons then you're free to start up your own credit card business. If you don't like creditors that CLD for high revolving utilization then you may want to get a better understanding of how it impacts scoring and risk assessment. CLI 's are not simply a matter of usage. Your credit profile and income will determine what you qualify for. I hear people here and offline complain about not receiving the correct cash back, however Discover has always given me the correct amounts.

They are not my fav lender, nor the worst. Somewhere in the middle. I hope that others learn from my experience and curb their use of Discover.

You may have better luck going straight to the vendor to get your money back. I paid online to a company to build a website for me, but that company never deliver the website, took the money and no respond. I dispute the charge, first I got a temporary credit back, then later, the charge repost back to account because merchant defend the case by simply saying I approved the transaction, yes and of course, But the key thing about disputing a charge is I don't get the goods or services as agreed or delivered as agreed.

Merchant didn't deliver anything that was initially agreed in the proposal. I lost the case. Discover told me to work with the merchant to get refund. Discover credit card doesn't protect card holders. Don't get discover cards. Just don't. You're responsible for anything you paid. The pandemic is changing things in the financial world. It's necessary for the card issuers to vet their clientele more thoroughly with all the Covid hardship and deaths causing corporate to take a loss. It's also the great resignation along with the global strike wave with the workers barely surviving on their pittance strike pay.

All of these circumstances and more are causing these credit corps to shut down risky accounts and cut back in the good ones. There's lots of tax cheats holding CCs they can hang up before they have payment problems with them. Soccer moms and others similarly situated who are up to their ears in debt will be stopped before they rack up a bill with them or make a transfer which could go sour. All in the face of the global uncertainty.

There's a lot of nit picking that'll cause a lot of accounts to be shut off thus protecting corporate profits. I realize all this after the fact. I already have Quicksilver and having been building my score up enjoying a greatly reduced insurance bill. That's all I really needed a credit card for.

I have plenty of money where I don't need to make payments. My house was paid for long ago and my vehicles are all paid for too.

I have no bills. I don't spend but for gas, groceries, and utilities. I have enough fun money and a six figure savings. The only time I needed to borrow money was as a college student in the s which was taken care of.

I needed a Discover card like I need a hole in the head because I'm doing fine building my score with Quicksilver. Since I'm reneging on signing my tax transcript over to Experian for Discover I imagine they will also close my Quicksilver on the grounds of my not sending tax info to Equifax the recent data breaches.

They're farming a lot of their work out to India and the Philippines nowadays the US workers are quitting. I don't need my financial and tax getting splayed across the globe. I will phone Discover when my card arrives in the mail and instead of activating it I will close it.

I will just say thanks but no thanks. I changed my mind. I will expect my Quicksilver to be shut off because Equifax never got their on the Discover. I guess that's life but honestly I felt big holding a credit card. I wanted two cards because it really helped my homeowner and vehicle insurance bill. The credit corporation doesn't make much money off people like me and the insurance gets less out of me but I've never paid a dime interest for it.

I will miss my credit anyway all over a technicality which I could actually meet but it'll still probably get rejected later down the road due to policy change or buyouts, etc.

Pay them off monthly, don't sign up for cards to get X off an order, and never pay living expenses utility, rent, house payment with a credit card and your rates may drop within the year.

So I have a good ratio with very long standing lines. Debt to income ratio has a lot to do with things. Here is the crazy thing: When I purchased a home in July by credit score at Trans Union and Experien were and but with Equifax Chase has a stake in them, I am positive was only or so.

The following months my credit scores dropped about 35 pts! I guess you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. I am guessing from the things I have run into. I never carry a balance. I use them for convenience. I bought and closed on a house the end of June, which was less than what most realtors wanted to sell me. My FICO score dropped 30 points! Still hating every second of debt servicing even though my balance is modest..
