Why does painters wear white clothes
When used correctly, bleach not only brightens the white, but gets rid of any germs, bacteria, or other contaminants far better than any other cleaning product. Put it this way, a white t-shirt is going to show all the dirt, stains, and any other particles that discolor the clothing. But when white clothing is clean, it really means it is clean which again creates a positive impression. Of course, even the clothing I have will give out, but until it does, I can make sure that it remains white and bright.
This creates a professional appearance that provides a positive impression on those who see me at work. Outdoor painting jobs can be hard and sweaty for professionals especially when the sun shines at its peak during the day. That positive impression also helps my business as people tend to brighten when they first meet me wearing all-white clothing. Arguably the most popular reason why painters wear white comes from the early days of unions which were forming after the turn of the 19 th century.
But unions that were forming in different professions started to wear white to separate themselves from non-union workers. It was common to see men wearing all white with black neckties as a symbol of being in a union and professional.
When working on a job with other painters who are wearing white, creates a more professional appearance. Professionalism is part of the job so that when others see me with those who are wearing similar clothing, the level of respect rises along with the possibility of getting more work. It also builds up a sense of being on the same team.
That I am a part of an overall effort to get a job completed. Plus, I still have a little room for individuality with the type of hat and color of socks or shoes that I wear. I love the Nostalgia of painters whites. My dad was a painting contractor for 20 years, to He did some pretty big houses in the Branson, Mo. While on the job he work old cloths mostly used a sprayer, so the over-spray would get him no matter what , and he knew a lot of builders, so he always had plenty of work.
I do recall the few times he did the odd job for someone at their house he would show up in old cloths, and no one would think any less of him for it. He could do a lot of things with paint too. He was good with matching stain, and paint.
I recall he took a trip to Champaign, Ill. He was pretty good with faux wood and faux marble. Just my reason: Painters used to cover themselves with white drop clothes while painting? And the color stuck? Your email address will not be published.
Out with the Old…In with the New!! December 31, Show all. It Just Makes Sense Regardless of where the uniform was derived from we can give you some reasons it is preferred within the ranks of the Men In White Painting crew. Attending a rock concert mandates wearing something black, a concert t-shirt or otherwise. Colors convey feelings too.
Not all police wear blue, but folks would have a hard time with a police officer dressed in pink. On the other side of that coin, silly clowns turn into serious mimes when they lose the colorful clothes for serious black ones. Simply put, there are moments in life, the right color is predetermined.
Most of the time, folks have no idea why that is the color of the moment, but they go along with it anyway. Where the heck some of these rumors come from is as baffling as the answers themselves. In the pants department, which includes overalls , white canvas or white denim cover the legs. On their chests, most painters today wear a short or long-sleeved t-shirt.
They may top off the outfit with a white cotton hat. This makes a terrible outfit for walking in a blizzard but is an ideal combo for working with a PVA primer. Painters wore white before the existence of unions. So, this is actually the behavior of the painters driving the union standards.
For awhile non-union workers would stand out in their non-white workwear, at least back in the day. Once upon a time, in the s, if they were painted, houses were most frequently white, especially in the south. Think southern plantation home. As far as being a reason for why painters wear white, this is weak. When one mixes paint colors , the base color is most often white. More to the point, at one time, painters used to mix a white lead powder with paint paste to make paint.
The mixing process produced large amounts of white dust, which went everywhere. To hide the dust, the painters wore white. This is one of the most logical reasons on record.
